Coordinator, Events and Operations

 

A non-partisan, non-profit organization, Intelligence Squared U.S. (IQ2US) addresses a fundamental problem in America: the extreme polarization of our nation and our politics. Our mission is to restore critical thinking, facts, reason, and civility to public discourse. Through a series of one-on-one debates, interviews, and Oxford-style debates, IQ2US provides a critical forum for balanced and intelligent discussion. IQ2US debates are recorded virtually and in front of a live audience, and distributed through public radio, podcast, and a number of digital streaming platforms.

The Events and Operations Coordinator provides day-to-day administrative support, and is responsible for the planning and execution of public-facing elements of live and virtual event production. Reporting to the Chief of Staff, this position demands versatility and an entrepreneurial spirit. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with the management team of a growing media organization.

The ideal candidate has at least two years of experience contributing to a variety of live events and ideally, large-scale productions. You are a high-energy, spirited, strategic thinker that has mastered the art of multi-tasking. You are tech-savvy, creative and flexible – no matter what comes your way you can devise a diplomatic solution and see the project through from start to finish. You possess an ambitious attitude toward your work and aren’t satisfied with the status-quo. You aren’t afraid to ask questions, dig deeper and develop new skills on the job.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage schedules, calendars and project management software.
  • Support event production functions, focusing on guest experience and front of house.
  • Interact and facilitate activities and meetings with vendors, departments and talent.
  • Prepare and file expense reports and track invoices.
  • Collaborate with senior staff to manage and execute the front-of-house responsibilities for 5+ live events annually, attended by 800+ live audience members and recorded for television and radio broadcasts.
  • Contribute to technical coordination for over a dozen virtual events and recording sessions annually.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of administrative / support staff experience in hospitality or media preferred.
  • Strong written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to pivot to changing priorities and adapt to various requests and projects with ease.
  • High level of competency with minimal supervision.
  • Must have ability to maintain high level of professionalism and discretion.
  • In-depth knowledge of MS Office required, especially Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Interest in current affairs, news and podcasts a plus.

 

Education

Minimum educational level – Associates Degree

 

Travel Requirements

Up to 15% travel in/out of state, as needed.
