Universal Health Coverage Should be the Federal Government's Responsibility

Debate Details

While U.S. spending on health care is a considerable portion of its GDP, many Americans are underinsured or excluded from health care entirely. Many argue health coverage is best left to private companies and hospitals that will operate with the efficiency and innovation that are the bedrock of a free market. Others cite medical care as a fundamental right, like education and security, and thus coverage should be regulated and fairly allocated by government. Is universal health coverage the federal government’s responsibility?
