Announcing "That's Debatable" in partnership with Bloomberg and IBM
We are excited to announce that Intelligence Squared U.S. has partnered with Bloomberg Media to launch a new interactive television show,“That’s Debatable.” The program will debut on Bloomberg Television Friday, October 9 at 7:00PM ET. Hosted by four-time Emmy Award-winning journalist and longtime debate moderator John Donvan, the show will feature industry leaders, economists, policy makers and public intellectuals debating some of today’s most pressing issues.
Filmed in front of a live virtual audience, “That’s Debatable” will follow our proven Oxford-style format with two teams of two – experts on the topic – debating over four rounds. As always, the audience will choose the winner.
“That’s Debatable” is presented with founding sponsor IBM, and will feature Watson, the only AI system capable of debating humans on complex topics, in real-time. Appearing for the first time anywhere on television, Watson will deliver insight into public opinion surrounding each episode’s debate topic by analyzing viewer-submitted arguments.

Economic inequality has become a linchpin of modern politics. As nations around the world face a reckoning on race and social justice and work to combat the economic impacts of the pandemic, we ask: Is it time to redistribute the wealth? Should we address growing inequality by overhauling our tax system, expanding our social safety nets, and investing more in public initiatives like universal health care, education, and infrastructure? Or would a wealth transfer unduly punish the economic elite, destroy the promise of a meritocracy, and inevitably lead to excessive government intervention in our social and economic lives?
